Air France plane intercepted for wrong signals

An Air France plane was intercepted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG 29 aircraft over Amritsar on Thursday morning, while crossing Indian airspace.

IAF radar picked up the plane, flying at a flight level of 37,000 feet, entering Indian airspace at the border for entry provided in the ATS route.

The aircraft was in communication and secondary radar response code or squawk code of the aircraft was not correct. The aircraft was identified as “unknown.”

Immediately, a MiG-29 fighter aircraft the IAF scrambled to intercept and investigate the identity of the ‘unknown’ aircraft.

It was later that the plane began to correctly render the response code and secondary radar was arrested and identified by the radar of AD as civil aircraft (A-343) Air France (AFR-164), who was in Paris Bangkok.

The MiG-29 fighter aircraft was given instructions to break and return to base. An official report of the incident had been referred to Airports Authority of India
