2 arrested for leaving baby unattended in hot car

Two people were arrested today afternoon in Paris, where a period of five months a baby was discovered in a hot car in a retail store. Shontell Marie Robinson, 38, and Steven Allen Smith, 20, both in Paris, facing charges of endangerment of a child with intent to return.

The police came immediately after the 5:30 pm call Saturday that the child is left unattended in a vehicle in the Wal-Mart on Lamar Avenue. When officers arrived, the baby had been removed from the car by an employee and stated that it was “warm to touch.” Five months was transferred to the Regional Medical Center in Paris for possible dehydration.

The officers discovered the evidence gathered the baby was left unattended in a vehicle for more than 20 minutes this afternoon the excessive heat.

Robinson Smith was charged with Endangering the child to return, a State Jail felony and shall bear the punishment range of 180 days to 2 years in state prison with a fine up to $ 10,000 and take Lamar County jail. Robinson is still there at $ 5,000 bond. And Smith, the driver of the car, customs to Sunday 9 August at $ 10,000 bond.

The child was later released from the hospital and released to the custody of his mother. It is unclear as to what is the relationship with her mother and people arrested.

Child Protective was also in contact with services and also investigate. Paris Police say the investigation is ongoing.
