Weather: Paris bask in sweltering temperatures

France and Italy have been the sun in sweltering temperatures, with the authorities in Rome free distribution of bottled water as tourists having fun in the fountains.

Were France and Italy sweltering temperatures soaring as a heat wave continues in parts of Europe.

Temperatures in Paris rose to 35 degrees Celsius, while in Rome, the authorities were about to say the temperature 40 degrees centigrade.

Italian civil protection authorities in Rome said on heat wave alert level 3, the highest, along with Milan and Bologna. Civil protection crews distributing free bottled water in the streets of the capital as part of measures taken to help people cope with the heat.

The water plan was launched on July 23 and is being funded by capital from the public transport authority.

Civil defense volunteers to distribute up to 55,000 bottles of water in the underground stations and buses in Rome during the period of maximum alert.

In Paris, the Trocadero fountains were a big draw, with people wading, splash and even swim in the water.
